Integrate Schools: End the SHSAT

Dear State Senator, Assemblymember and Governor Cuomo,

I would like to ask you to take leadership in ending the State requirement for a Specialized High School exam at three high schools in New York City: Stuyvesant, Bronx Science, and Brooklyn Tech. The SHSAT, used as the sole admission criterion at 8 specialized high schools in NYC, has created schools that don’t reflect our city and are not available to many of our brightest students. It should be done away with. The test does not follow NYS curriculum and rewards students with the resources to engage in test preparation. It is time for NY State to take leadership in school integration and provide opportunities to students from all communities and levels of advantage.

Please sponsor and support legislation to end use of the Specialized High School Exam.
