Benjamin Slomba started this petition to NYS Governor Andrew Cuomo

My Labor Day 2019 began with an email from Governor Cuomo, boasting about the new labor laws his office put into effect. He didn’t once mention the “Cuts” he made that affect arguably some of the most vulnerable constituents in NYS! The disabled.

The disabilities community has suffered a severe blow as The Governor has approved cuts in the Medicaid funded CDPAS program, without consideration of the many people who are left with under budgeted, insufficient care.

For eight years now, I have been employed by NYS’s CDPAS program as an attendant for my Twin Brother who is multiply handicap.  I don’t get paid much, and have no benefits. Fast Food  employees are compensated better. Out of love and care for my parents and Brother, I have set aside personal ambitions and education to insure that my family is well served. The only time my wage is considered respectable is when I work overtime. It is a necessity in order to provide for my family.  However, a new legislation was passed on Labor Day that eliminates funding for overtime. Unless this policy is overturned, I will be forced to look elsewhere for work.  My brother will need to hire strangers to provide the most intimate of care for the least amount of pay allowable in NYS.

Please sign my petition. Please pass it along to anyone who can help. I’ve written any and every official I know of  in NYS to HEAR the predicament of the many people who are affected by this.
