Terry Fiedler started this petition to Commissioner Betty A. Rosa NYS education

Allow the pursuit of children exploring various occupations, so students and parents are given the choice to choose a suitable path to a career through education to include vocational along with college entrance curriculum.

Starting in grade 7 students will research aspects of vocational and college entrance careers including but not just specific to nursing. Before the pandemic many trade companies were holding job fairs to entice graduates and young workers to come work for them where they would receive training. Clearly there is a need for more trade's curriculum, and students should have the choice of vocational or college career path.

As for nursing, there no programs for LPN offered at the high school level to start students on a career path to nursing. If this were available students could start their career with two years less debt. Nursing care facilities could offer to hire nursing students right out of high school while they earn their RN degree thereby creating a steady flow of nurses for nursing homes.

Statistics show that the average health care worker is age 50 or over with many retiring in the next 10-15 years. With a shortage of nurses already, the pandemic only made this clearer. There will be other crises soon if change doesn't happen. So please help by signing this petition to let the NYS Education Commissioner know change is needed.
