Does your child receive occupational therapy, physical therapy, and/or speech therapy in school? New York State Senate Bill S3683 is a proposed amendment to the New York State education law requiring school district superintendents to provide 60 days advanced notice of the termination of special therapy services (OT/PT/SLP). This will ensure that you have ample time to organize alternate services for your child if school services are terminated, avoiding any gaps in the therapy services your child may need. Therapy gaps may cause a regression in the skills your child has achieved. Bill S3683 will enable you to avoid this consequence.
This bill has been reintroduced in the past three legislative sessions and needs to be reintroduced once again for the 2018-2019 legislative session. There is currently no Assembly version of this bill, which is necessary for a bill to be passed into law. Encourage your legislators to introduce an Assembly version of bill S3683 and also to reintroduce the Senate version of the bill in the next legislative session.
