Pass legislation to create one MONROE COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT

The students of the Rochester City School District, as well as the many surrounding suburbs, are not being served well by the current nineteen-district school system. A single, metro school district would allow children to broaden their horizons, by allowing them the opportunity to have classmates/friends from other areas of Monroe County. A homogenous classroom without diversity of ethnicities or cultures does not prepare children for the real world, which is operating on a global scale.

There is also a terrible concentration of poverty in our inner-city, which creates many challenges for the students who, through no fault of their own as to which zip code they were born into and currently reside, are forced to remain in schools that are not well-funded, lack core academic classes, as well as limiting AP, arts, and sports opportunities, and simply don't have the resources to address their various needs.

Many studies have shown that by integrating schools with children from various socio-economic backgrounds, all the students learning together will flourish, and be well prepared for college, as well as for life. As residents of Monroe County, we want better for our children... NOW.
