Artshack Brooklyn started this petition to Community Board 3, Councilmember Cornegy's office, and the Monroe Street Block Association

To: Community Board 3, Councilmember Cornegy's office, and the Monroe Street Block Association:

Artshack is a non profit organization that is cherished by many community members. We have been offering free and heavily subsidized ceramics classes for seniors, differently abled people, children and families since 2016. The pandemic hit us hard: we had to shut down the studio from March until July, when we started slowly reopening thanks to sidewalk classes.

The Department of Transportation offered us a recovery Street Seat, which allows us to safely teach our classes and free community days. However, we are now in jeopardy of losing our Street Seat due to community resistance regarding the patio taking up two parking spots.

Our patio is vital to our classes for all ages, but also for the following community activities:

1) Artshack has a long standing partnership with Bedford Academy High School. Students from BAH come in once a week for free wheel classes with Ivan Samuels. The patio is vital to this partnership.

2) Artshack is funded by the Department of Cultural Affairs to host community days. On Community Days, we provide free clay and materials, instruction and firing to the community on the Artshack Patio.

Please help us continue serving our community by offering safe sidewalk classes.

The community members below support this petition.
