Stop the Tar Toxins from Polluting our Homes

As residents of The Eastmore we have been adversely impacted by the noisy and now toxic construction site at JHS 167M, Wagner Middle School. Many promises have been made by the NYC School Construction Authority in terms of timeline for project completion and amelioration of the toxic fumes generated by the long delayed roofing project.

We want this project to end by the stated date of December 31st, and for an independent air quality test to be conducted to assess the level the toxic fumes currently emanating from the project. We want a follow up test done again at the conclusion of the project to ensure those levels have dropped.

OSHA considers asphalt fumes exposure a top priority and major health concern for workers exposed to the substance.

Why should the elderly, pregnant, and young children who reside in our building be any different?

Should the SCA fail to meet the December 31st deadline or provide an air quality test during and after the project, we as residents will take additional actions including media outreach.
