Elisa Iocolano started this petition to Nyc mayor Deblasio and chancellor Richard carranza

Starting December 7th, 2020, NYC elementary school students ages 6-11, are being forced to test for covid 19 weekly. Students are in school as little as five to ten hours a week with masks on and are socially distanced in a class with 7-8 students, but the city is now forcing students to take time out of the very little learning they are receiving and wait on a line to be traumatized by forced covid tests that are not 100% accurate without their parents present. Young children have endured enough since March, their lives have been turned upside down over and over,  they have lost loved ones and they have lost normalcy.  Parents seeking normalcy with blended in person instruction are now being punished for doing so, either consent to testing or your child must learn remote. When students are forced to go remote against their will, they will lose their current teacher and classmates, bonds they have formed and can be placed with whatever teacher is available including a substitute with little to no experience. What happened to parents rights? What happened to a child’s right to an education? What has transpired in the last week is completely unfair. Parents are being forced into remote learning.  The mayor and chancellor have gone too far because it is not their children who are being affected, so they simply do not care. The Mayor and chancellor are not considering the long term, social-emotional and academic impacts this will have on NYC students for years to come. They are basing all of this on “independent medical researchers” who are these independent researchers? Who has given the DOE and a mayor the authorityto subject students and parents against their will? When will it end? What restrictions will be placed on students next? We must take a stand!
