We as registered nurses in intellectual disability are highly trained and like our colleagues in other grades of nurses have transferral nursing skills that can be used across many clinical areas. We are trained to a degree standard and pay a registration fee in order to secure employment as nurses and engage in nursing practice, however, our governing body places limitations on where as nurses we can seek employment. While other nursing grades can cross over to our area of nursing we are prohibited from crossing over to other clinical areas of nursing
We are calling on NMBI, the minister of health and the INMO to give RNID's the parity esteem and recognise us as clinicians that have the skill base to work across the Irish health sector
