Elmina David started this petition to Nuclear Regulatory Commission

There are two types of storage canisters for spent Nuclear Waste—thin-walled and thick-walled. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) approves the usage of thin-walled canisters, even though they CANNOT be inspected before being transported, and they DO NOT satisfy the critical minimum safety standards of the NRC's Title 10 regulation and requirements.

Every un-inspected canister of spent nuclear waste is a ticking time bomb—another Chernobyl waiting to happen.

Help protect yourself and your community by demanding that the NRC ban thin-walled canisters!

Here are some major points:

- NRC is not following its own regulations or using the best available scientific information
- High-level nuclear fuel needs to be stored in containers that meet the critical minimum safety standards embodied in NRC CFR 72 and NRC CFR 20.
- There are two basic types of containers:  Thin-walled, welded canisters, which are put into concrete casks, and thick-walled bolted casks, that can be stored in hardened buildings. Only thick-walled casks can be pressure-monitored and allow for waste fuel to be retrieved.
- Canisters can degrade and crack over time.  There is no contingency plan for possible leakage or other incidents. The NRC says this eventuality is “not credible”.
