Stop Newcastle City Council From Closing the Oasis Early

The Oasis in Beaumont Street Hamilton was for the longest time the only place in that area for people to get food after Midnight, but a draconian, inactive law from over 20 years ago was recently revived in order that once again only two of the five food outlets there can stay open after 12am. This means that many punters from the pubs and clubs along Beaumont Street are forced to wander drunk over to either Hungry Jacks or McDonalds in Broadmeadow, almost a kilometer away.
Not only is this terrible for local business, but it's also dangerous. People wandering that far while intoxicated could wind up having awful accidents or even worse, be encouraged to drive and risk the lives of other people.
We want to show the Council that the people of this city will not stand for this kind senseless legislation. There is no evidence to suggest a chronic history of violent incidents at the Oasis. Actually many emergency service worker and law enforcement officers frequent the establishments at the Oasis. We can not allow hard working small business people's livelihoods to go under or have Newcastle's already dwindling nightlife continue to wither away. The hospitality industry is worth millions to the local economy.
We want to show that if Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes allows this to happen, she might have a bit of trouble being re-elected. We want her and the other councillors to repeal this senseless, idiotic by-law restricting the rights to trade of our local restaurateurs.
