All Australians should have the right to be literate in their own birth family language as well as in our standard Australian English therefore indigenous and other children in the NT need to become literate in their own language as well as in English, hence the call for continuation and extension of bi-Lingual education in the NT is essential.

Indigenous languages provide a unique and valuable view of the world, benefiting not only the children who learn and use them but also their community and Australia as a whole.

Aboriginals should be allowed to have their language & culture taught in govt. schools; Australia is their native country not the migrants & descendants, respect & learning of this rich culture should be in all schools.

Both my wife - Dr Olga Gostin (anthropologist) and myself believe that Aboriginal languages are an essential part of their culture - and thus worth preserving.
