Decision Maker Response
Mark Speakman’s response
Oct 5, 2017 — NSW will be opposing parole in this matter.
I’m also able to inform you that NSW already has laws to keep the most dangerous sex and violent offenders behind bars or under the strictest supervision beyond their sentences.
The state can make applications under these laws when offenders who pose an unacceptable risk of committing a further serious offence reach the last six months of their sentence.
New legislation to be introduced next week will further strengthen these laws.
