Stop further mining under Woronora Dam and save our drinking water now!

Right now Peabody Energy is seeking approval for further mining, intended to run directly under Woronora Dam.

Drone footage, recently published in the Sydney Morning Herald, shows streams filled with red and soupy green discoloured water. This water leads straight to Woronora dam.

Woronora supplies 100% of the drinking water from Helensburgh to Engadine, Maianbar, and Bundeena, and around 30% of the water to suburbs between Sutherland and Cronulla.

The area around the catchment is supposed to be pristine, and the water clean, filtered through natural streams and swamps. The catchment is formally classified as a ‘special area’ – public access is restricted to protect water quality – fines can be up to $44,000.

Say “No!” to approval of more mines, expected to pass below Woronora Reservoir as our Minister for Planning and Public Spaces currently considers whether to grant final approval for these to go ahead.
