Why this petition matters

Started by Colin Twist

NSW RFS Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons has shown extraordinary steadfast leadership during this bushfire crisis. He has displayed professional and inspirational leadership including real humanity (pictured awarding to young Harvey Keaton).

I believe this example, during a time (ongoing) of extreme stress and crisis should be formally recognised with Australia’s highest honours, The Order of Australia.

Mr. Fitzsimmons epitomises the Australian spirit and continues to be a point of focus and leadership to all Australians during this incredibly difficult time. His media briefings and detailed communications of events (without notes) demonstrates his intimate knowledge and involvement of the emergency response.

This point of recognition in no way discounts the massive efforts by all our men and women, professional, volunteer and members of the public who contribute diligently and above personal interests behind the scenes.

We also recognise the terrible loss and impact to the families who have lost so much which further shows the huge mantle of responsibly Mr. Fitzsimmons shoulders on behalf of his RFS team, NSW community and of all Australians.
