UPDATE 25 Feb 2016 — Thanks so much for signing the petition. I have introduced the inquiry into the Upper House, but I need your help to convince the other parties to support it.

I have set up an easy tool to email key members of the Upper House demanding they support the inquiry. Once we have their support, we can vote on and establish the inquiry.

The loss of so many trees, including iconic more than 100 year old Moreton Bay Figs, along Anzac Parade and Alison Road was completely avoidable and any further losses must be stopped.

The Government has changed the route from the South side of Alison Road to the North after the project was approved and the Environmental Impact Statement determined the route on the South side of Alison Road was the best option.

This decision seems to have been made to benefit property developers and other established interests along the route, rather than the environment or the community.

The NSW Government must stop the removal of trees immediately and find a better solution that delivers a public transport solution and protects our environment.

With so many unanswered questions about how we got to this situation, the lack of transparency and the appalling way the community and the environment have been treated, the NSW Parliament urgently needs to launch an inquiry into why the route was changed, why community concerns haven’t been listened to and the needless removal of these majestic trees.

Dr Mehreen Faruqi MLC will be giving notice of an inquiry on the first sitting day in 2016 of the Upper House of NSW Parliament. The NSW Parliament needs to support this.
