Lesbians and gay men were beaten and bashed here in 1978! The rainbow crossing recognises the history of this precinct, is great public art and breathes life into Oxford Street.

Keep the fabulous Taylor Square rainbow crossing!
Lesbians and gay men were beaten and bashed on Oxford Street in 1978, and homophobic violence was rife for years. To now have our flag on our street celebrates how far we have come and is a tribute to the battles we have won.
The crossing will be a major tourist attraction and bring new life to Oxford Street. It is a colourful piece of public art as well.
We don't see the crossing will cause safety risks, and many encourage road users to take more care.
Please allow the rainbow crossing to remain a permanent reminder of our history.
