End gender-based parental leave discrimination by the NSW Department of Education

Cameron Long is the biological father of two children born overseas via surrogacy.

The NSW Department of Education has asked Cameron to backpay his parental leave entitlement as the primary carer, as he could not present a parentage order from the Supreme Court of NSW to validate the payment. This is despite the fact that the NSW Supreme Court does not issue parentage orders to biological parents of children (Cameron falls into this category).

The parental leave entitlements for NSW Government departments need to be updated to remove gender-based discrimination that hurts families such as Cameron's. Cameron would be entitled to the full leave payment if he were a female and the primary carer in this situation.

End gender based discrimination endorsed by a Government that has long championed gender equality and support for LGBTIQ+ rights.
