NSW Health has launched a program to remove sugary drinks from hospital vending machines and cafes.
As a Mum with a child who has regular visits to CHW I am really disappointed. While I understand the reasoning behind it I am not a coffee drinker so often rely on a cold soft drink to help keep me awake during overnight stays.
Even if I was to take my own I would not be able to have it cold as there are only shared fridges in wards and how would it be monitored.
I am sure we would never see the end of coffee being served in hospitals and yet caffeine in large doses is not good either. It is also more dangerous as it is hot.
Diabetics may also need access to sugary drinks at times of low blood sugar. A long stay in hospital with your child may be one of those situations.
I think people should be allowed to make their own decisions on what they drink. I know I drink plenty of water and don't feel I or others should be denied the chance for a soft drink while at the hospital.
