NSFAS must pay historical debts

Some tertiary students do not receive funding from NSFAS on their first year of studying, due to various reasons. By the time they are approved for funding, they have incurred outstanding fees, that they need to pay their respective tertiary institution. The meer fact that they qualify to receive funding from NSFAS, shows that they don't have the funds to pay for their studies. These outstanding fees need to be settled, in order for them to receive their qualifications and if these outstanding fees are not settled, the tertiary institution witholds their qualifications and that means that they cannot apply for what they have been studying for. This is a violation of human rights because if you are disadvantaged, financially, it means that you are robbed of the opportunity to pursue your career. This makes economic freedom a far fetched idea for the less fortunate. People are always encouraged to pursue their career and study further. Education is supposed to be the key to success but there are stumbling blocks and a lot of red tape that prevents our people from being able to fully achieve this success. Many people are sitting at home, depressed and struggling to cope with the stress of not being able to get their qualifications due to historical debts. It's about time we hold the relevant stake holders accountable
