Hello! My name is Nova Yu, and I am from Grand Junction, Colorado. I am currently a sophomore at Colorado College, and I am running for the position of CCSGA Junior Representative. As the class of 2024 moves into our 3rd year of college, I know I will be able to represent the many voices of my class equally and fairly. My two years of experience on CCSGA as well as my involvement in student organizations such as Delta Mu, has taught me the leadership skills needed to listen, contribute, and collaborate with my peers in and out of the classroom. I am open-minded, sociable, able to communicate effectively, and most importantly willing to take accountability and responsibility. These skills have allowed me to pursue my journey of becoming a familiar advocate of inclusion on this campus.  

If elected as one of the Junior Representatives, my main hope is to cultivate a safer and more inviting environment for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) students. CC, as a predominately white institution, has failed time and time again to accommodate for BIPOC students, whether that be through the lack of health and wellness or an overall absence of BIPOC figures in departments across campus. As an Asian American woman, I pledge to be a figure of reason and equity for those who are put at a disadvantage because of the institutions and systems set in place at CC. In this role, I want to be working especially with affinity groups / BIPOC identifying clubs and organizations such as the Asian Student Union (ASU), CC Black Student Union (CCBSU), SOMOS, and many others, to be a resource for them to promote their work and events to the rest of the student body. Events this year such as, The Lunar New Year Festival or the Butler Center’s Break the Block, are just two examples of events that have highlighted the amazing facets of cultures that many students at CC identify with, and are celebrations that I, as Junior Representative, hope to aid in various means. 

Your vote for me will not only ensure effective communication from our class to CCSGA and vice versa, but it will be a vote towards increased advocacy, involvement, and inclusion at Colorado College.
