Approve Radon gas mitigation costs in Canada

This petition is to request that the Nova Scotia Provincial Government allow home owners to claim the cost of installing a Radon Gas Extractor or Heat Recovery Ventilator (HRV) when they discover they have Bequerels/cubic metre levels above the national limit of 200 Bq/m3. The cost the the Extractor is about $1500 whereas the HRV is about $4000, to which must be added Harmonized Sales Tax. Given the money that will be saved by the Department of Health in caring for patients contracting lung cancer caused by radon gas, this makes common sense.
►Radon gas is the second highest cause of lung cancer after smoking.
►Radon gas is a decay product of Uranium and Radium decay.
►Radon has a half life of 3.8 days, which means that it may decay between breathing in and out, i.e.radiating your lungs from INSIDE.
►Uranium deposits occur in granites and the Carboniferous Horton Group.
►Radon gas measurements vary from LOW RISK area through MODERATE to HIGH (yellow-brown-red on map).
►ALL houses need to be tested for radon gas - radon testing kits are available from the Lung Association of Nova Scotia.
►Measurements higher than 200 Bq/m3 require mediation.
