Redesign A6006 road junction near East Leake
0 have signed. Let’s get to 1,000!
Plans are being prepared for the National Clinical Rehabilitation Facility at Stanford Hall near East Leake in Nottinghamshire. Residents have serious concerns about the access arrangements i.e. a new junction onto the A6006 close to the existing staggered crossroads at Loughborough Road/A6006/Leake Lane. This a main route from East Leake to Loughborough and already difficult and dangerous due to the volume and speed of traffic along the A6006. Another junction just across the road will exacerbate the problem.
Since the access was agreed back in 2013 there have been considerable changes:
a) Over 1200 homes have been granted planning permission at East Leake, as opposed to the 400 planned for. These are mostly large family homes, increasing the commuter traffic, a considerable proportion of which needs to use the A6006.
b) The nearby housing development “North of Rempstone Road” includes a condition that will close the eastern arm of Rempstone Road (“Gypsy Lane”). This will displace traffic onto the junction in question.
c) The developments at Kegworth/J24 will increase overall traffic in the area.
The facility will not be easy to get to by sustainable forms of transport. Pedestrians and cyclists have not been adequately catered for. There is no footpath or cyclepath from East Leake. Any pedestrians walking to the junction, or getting off at the bus stop, will have to cross the road at this complicated and dangerous junction, with traffic coming from all directions at speed. A traffic light controlled crossing is needed across the A6006 here. It is then a considerable walk from the bus stop to the new building.
Nottinghamshire County Council should redesign the access arrangements before it is too late. Options might include a combination of:
b) Traffic Lights
c) Speed control
d) Traffic calming
e) Vehicle route through the new facility with an exit onto Leake Lane in Stanford
f) Safe pedestrian and cycle paths to East Leake
g) Controlled crossing for pedestrians, cyclists and bus users at the junction
h) Rerouting the No1 bus service through the site, or providing a shorter pedestrian route with a bus stop on Leake Lane
