I bear this news with a heavy heart, gentlemen. The administration has gone against the common good of the students and declared that the Monday after Super Bowl WILL NOT be a holiday, breaking both hearts and years of tradition. However, we as Notre Dame students agree to stand alongside our brothers, and petition for what is right: a day of rest and relaxation after the Big Game.

Going virtual this year has been tough for all of us, especially for us seniors, with colleges being harder to get into than ever due to an increased early action pool. Of course, this year has been grueling, not only for us students, but for the staff as well. A day of rest and recuperation after the Super Bowl would be beneficial not only to students, but to teachers who would also watch the game in its entirety, usually lasting until the late hours.

Of course, it would be ridiculous to not mention the fact that we have had Super Bowl off every year during our tenure at Notre Dame, with the tradition itself being even older. Although this year has been a year of change and adaption, we would be remiss if we didn’t hang on to some of the old ways that made Notre Dame special.  

Administration: we understand this decision is difficult. But I implore you, please, listen to the students. Listen to the parents. Listen even to your fellow faculty. Do the right thing. I know you will.
