Not another gas station in Memphis! No to Tillman/Sam Cooper gas station proposal

Developers in Memphis have been relentlessly working to build a gas station at the corner of Tillman and Sam Cooper. The neighborhood has consistently voiced opposition not to the development but to the gas station, as Memphis has 6 gas stations per 10,000 residents while most cities have 4:10,000. We are opposed to this short-sightedness which values profit over the local environment and the long-term environmental damage that another gas station will cause. Furthermore, there is a gas station across the street, not to mention the 14 others in one square mile of this location. Memphis City council voted down this proposal in a November 16th meeting but Councilman Smiley has requested another vote in January. Over the objections of the councilmen for this district, Memphis City Council also voted to delete the vote from the November 16th minutes.
We oppose the development of this gas station and want to send a message to the Memphis City Council that they need to listen to neighborhoods, not to developers who will profit from these decisions. The future of our children's health should not be for sale.
We ask the Memphis City Council to once again vote no on this proposal and urge the developers to eliminate the gas station in their plans for this site.
