Rene Dierker started this petition to Norwood Ohio City Council

Mosquito spraying companies use chemicals that have been found to have only <0.01% efficacy killings adult mosquitoes, according to scientific studies.  These chemicals are not larvicides.  They only kill mosquitoes by direct contact.  While these chemicals are poor at killing mosquitoes, the chemicals can and do contaminate soils and vegetation, and enter the urban ecosystem’s food web, harming beneficial insects and all the other species that feed on those insects (and vegetation).

According to Ohio Pesticide Law, these companies are not permitted to contaminate neighboring properties, yet the leaf-blower type method of chemical dispersal they use makes this virtually impossible.  In tight urban quarters a neighboring property is easily contaminated by these toxic chemicals.

Anyone who plants for pollinators, feeds the birds, has outside pets, grows backyard vegetables, keeps bees or poultry, or simply cares about keeping the urban ecosystem as toxin-free as possible should be concerned about the effects of these pesticides on our health as well as the health of all living things in our environment.

Please sign the petition if you believe these companies should be banned from doing business within the city limits of Norwood, thus insuring a cleaner, more toxin-free environment within our city.
