Julianne Flynn started this petition to Norwell Public Schools Administration

Many towns on the South Shore, Norwell included, have very strong school systems with staggeringly low diversity rates. The lack of diversity within the students and faculty of our school system here in Norwell provides our students with less experience with living situations and styles different than ours, fewer chances to form interracial friendships, and prepare for a diverse and successful future in the workforce. Along with the school system, the town of Norwell as a whole would greatly benefit from an increase in economic, racial, and cultural diversity. Though there are several solutions to bringing diversity to the suburbs, many of the most effective: constructing affordable housing and extending public transportation options prove to be too great of an undertaking to kickstart the progression of our town's racial, economic, and cultural makeup. One of the most accessible and well established methods to begin to bring diversity into our community is through the school system. Setting up the METCO program in our school system would help to combat racism and ignorance as well as promoting equality in education. Neighboring towns, Cohasset, Scituate, and Newton, have welcomed METCO into their school systems and they have since experienced great improvements in the diversity of their education, social lives, and communities. With your signature we can work towards the addition of METCO to our town, and experience a growth in the composition of our town like never before!
