Please sign the petition for Norton Hill school to re-lay astro turf, not 3G!

Mendip Hockey Club has three womens, two mens teams and a thriving junior section. We have been using Norton Hill’s astro turf since it was created in 2002. We use the pitch 4 days a week for training, match play and junior training. Over the past two years the pitch has deteriorated and needs a re-surface. Norton Hill School has decided to replace the astro turf with a 3G material which is unsuitable for playing hockey. This would leave us with no pitch to play on in the local area.

Over the last two years as a committee we have contacted Norton Hill and asked specifically if the new surface will be suitable for hockey and have always been told yes! So it has come as a shock and a huge disappointment that Norton Hill School should go back on their plans.

The Midsomer Norton area already has two 3G pitches. There would be three in a four-mile radius if these plans go ahead, all of which are unsuitable for hockey. We would like for Norton Hill to reinstate an astro pitch so that hockey can still be played in the local area.

This decision will also impact on Norton Hill students. Introducing school children to hockey on a substandard surface will lead to reduced enjoyment of the game. It also makes it harder to develop key skills which if learned early can lead to many years of playing a team sport as an adult. It would be a real shame for such a popular sport to die out in Midsomer Norton.

On behalf of Mendip Hockey Club, please sign this petition so that we can continue to play hockey at Norton Hill school. Thank you
