sunny rebeau started this petition to Northville MI Township Planning Commission and Township Supervisor

We are circulating this petition opposing the development of Project Number PSLU21-0002 40570 5 Mile Rd in Northville Township. This applicant wishes to build a freestanding fast food and ice cream restaurant with a drive thru on the corner of our residential area. The applicant is requesting a special land use permit to include a drive thru which requires special permission from the Northville township planning Committee. The lot on which this restaurant would be built is zoned to allow for a sit down or take out restaurant and the purpose of this petition is not to stop approval of the site just the drive thru aspect of the business plan. Once the township starts allowing the use of drive thru's they may be in the difficult position of having to show why they shouldn't approve every request and Northville could  begin to look like every other city.

Some of the main concerns of the residents include noise from traffic and loud speaker ordering system; bright lighting; traffic increases and degradation of unpaved residential streets and on Five Mile Road in an already congested area; attraction of rodents to grease and dumpsters with food scraps in them; and the use of our residential streets as entrances and exits for a private business, and the impact on home values in the area. We are also concerned that this decision may fuel other decisions and have an impact on the small town quality of life that attracts people to the area.

In a walk around petition 79% of homeowners on Fry St signed opposing the special land use permit. However, this appears to have fallen on deaf ears form the Northville Planning Commission, that is why we are seeking additional support from the community.

We have urged Northville Township to give weight to the desires of the neighborhood and to respect our wishes to maintain the quiet neighborhood setting that many of us have enjoyed for decades. The homeowners on Fry Avenue, Parklane, Maxwell and Marilyn Streets will certainly be greatly negatively impacted for years to come should this request to be approved. This will also have an impact on Plymouth residents residing on Five Mile Road which is a two-lane road already very heavily congested. The harm that will be done to residents if the request for a special land use permit is allowed to go through greatly outweighs any harm to the individuals requesting this special land use permit.
