Urgent action is needed to improve road safety outside Allendale Primary School

The speed of traffic using the B6303 outside Allendale Primary School is completely unacceptable and increasingly dangerous. It is only a matter of time before a serious accident happens.

Cars exceed the 30mph limit regularly, often not slowing even when it is clear very young children are waiting to cross the road. The council approved reducing the limit to 20mph before Easter 2016, yet there has been no indication or when this will be introduced, a whole year later.

Crossing the road with young children is a stressful and worrying experience, this should not be the way school begins for our children on a daily basis.

In addition, the road signage warning of school children is non existent, there is no safe road crossing for the children to use and cars continue to park in unsafe positions opposite the school.

The inaction of the local council is not acceptable. We demand that they accept their responsibility for keeping our children safe.

There should be no excuse for any further delays. It will be on their heads when something serious happens to child in our village.
