Elizabeth Goldman started this petition to Northport/East Northport School District

Today the Northport/East Northport School District released school reopening plans. As of now, there is no option for parents to choose 100% remote learning. Instead, the only option is to send children to school two days a week.

It is stated that the survey pushed out to the district reflected the desire for in-person learning. What percent of our families completed the survey? Of that percentage, what percent wanted 2 days a week?  Where is the breakdown of these numbers? Vague questions on a survey left us without OPTIONS.

Our community is diverse in its needs. Some families have no choice but to work in order to stay afloat. Now these same families have to hire childcare providers for the three days of remote learning.

Some of us are ready to send our children back full time. That is not on the table at all.

A remote learning option would benefit the entire community. It would reduce the student population, making classrooms safer for students and teachers. Class sizes would be smaller. There would be fewer students riding buses.

PARENTS would have a voice in this time of uncertainty. Had this been offered from the beginning, the district could have planned for full-time school for those who needed and wanted that OPTION. Those of us who are uncomfortable sending our children to school would have the OPTION to access school from home.
Consider the impacts of this plan. Consider the fact that we deserve OPTIONS to accommodate ALL families.

This plan needs to be reworked. Attend the BOE meeting which was rescheduled for Friday, August 7th at 6pm. Let’s ask about our OPTIONS.
