We, the Northland DHB RMO’s, petition Northland DHB to reduce the consumption of single use plastic water bottles by providing RMO’s with reusable named water bottles. 

An average of 310 plastic water bottles are consumed by RMOs each month in Whangarei Hospital. This works out to 3,720 plastic bottles annually. A single use water bottle can take up to 450 years to decompose. 

Southern DHB successfully implemented a similar programme in 2020 and reduced consumption of plastic water bottles by 34%. This provided both financial savings for the DHB and environmental savings for our planet. 

We support Northland Doctors for Sustainability’s proposal and ask that Northland DHB support this project financially, working alongside us to reduce the consumption of single use plastic at our DHB in 2022.
