The proposed Amendment is wrong. The Amendment is not necessary - Universal practices are already in place. It will be costly and divert valueable NT Police resources yet do nothing to further protect Police. And it is targeted & discriminatory.

Health professionals have a duty to act in the best interests of our patients. Tests for infections should only be carried out with informed consent. The proposal to use force to carry out such tests would violate the trust the community has towards health professionals and have detrimental flow-on effects to the relationship between health professionals and the community as a whole, by entrenching a coercive power in the hands of people who should be there to serve.

I believe this process is flawed. It does need and careful and broad consultation, not rushed and ill-considered legislation. I see this as an election ploy.
