Northern Parkway Safety Assessment (NPSA)

Northern Parkway Safety Assessment (NPSA)
Why this petition matters

Northern Parkway between 83 and Preakness Way has been long known for two specific safety related issues:
- speed based accidents (especially during wet weather events) on the eastbound, downhill side of Northern Parkway between Greenspring Ave and 83
- moisture caused falling trees and limbs in the curb lane westbound on Northern parkway between 83 and Preakness Way.
The eastbound accidents have been regular enough to call for traffic calming assessments for that segment of roadway (regularly if not at least during weather events) and the westbound falling limbs and trees have very luckily not fallen onto a passing vehicle to date. Pruning trees back enough to create a sensible “fall zone” (right of way) is a measure necessary for the health and safety of passing curb lane vehicle passengers.

Baltimore City and residents have been incredibly fortunate that though limbs and entire trees have fallen onto the curb lane roadway, blocking the entire lane, that no one has yet been injured. If these events continue to occur with the knowledge of history, a lack of action could possibly see an injury or even death.
