Kids all ages have had a tough year. To date they have missed 20weeks of face to face teaching. They are unable to develop their social skills by play or interaction with their peers. There has been no social outlet or the opportunity to pursue hobbies, of course this is understandable given the pandemic. It is impossible to fit a year’s worth of studies into half a school year. I believe that schools could use the  time available after this lockdown  to encourage team building, playing, addressing fears or anxieties that have developed due to COVID. This is a valuable opportunity to encourage or teach children to express feelings about their experience of COVID and the impact it has had on them. Why put added pressure and stress onto their little shoulders.  I am a grown adult, and I find it very frustrating and confusing as the guide lines can change in as little as 24hours. And the anxiety can be so overwhelming at times that you feel you can’t escape no matter what direction you turn. Now ask yourself how does a 4year old feel? Or a 11year old who was due to sit a transfer test? Or a 4th year who will need to sit exams next year? What harm would it cause to let all pupils repeat the school year?
