We originally started this group to support keeping Rotary Lake open and it looks like we are going to need to pull together again. We need to collect photos and letters, documentation about use of the lake. Please post here for now. The issue will be discussed at the City Council meeting on Monday. I don't know details, but Northern Health has been working to change the lake status for years. Below is what will be brought to City Council by Paul Gevatkoff on Monday.
REGARDING ROTARY LAKE:
Northern Health has been obsessed with rescinding the status of ROTARY LAKE for many years. Northern Health has again reinforced their position in a memo to the Mile O Park Society three days ago.
If the status of ROTARY LAKE is rescinded, it will mean an end to this valuable amenity.
The residents of the South Peace value ROTARY LAKE. This was expressed strongly when the City considered closing ROTARY LAKE four years ago.
Since then, the City has contributed to the enhancement of the facility with the support of the splash park.
Northern Health has made recommendations regarding reopening ROTARY LAKE since last year. Their requirements change with each directive.
It appears the actions of Northern Health will prevent opening of ROTARY LAKE this summer. I feel this is a tactic to move toward their goal of rescinding the status of ROTARY LAKE.
I move that a committee of Council involve MLA Bernier and collectively advise Northern Health that ROTARY LAKE is a vital amenity for the people of the South Peace and rescinding its status is not acceptable and an immediate solution to allow the opening of ROTARY LAKE this summer be provided.
