Stop COVID memorial on Sydney’s Northern Beaches

At the Northern Beaches Council meeting on Tuesday evening, the motion put forward by Frenchs Forest Ward Councillor Penny Philpott was green-lighted, with Mayor Michael Reagan and Deputy Mayor Candy Bingham throwing their support behind the project.

Council resolved to spend a minimum of $100,000 on the artwork, and with no maximum limit declared, hypothetically $1.7 million allocated for public art projects could be spent on"

Councillor Rory Amon said “Council’s decision to spend at least $100,000 on a COVID-19 memorial artwork has shown an arrogant disregard for community opposition to the memorial," he says. "The concept is wasteful, tone deaf, unwanted and shows a council out of touch with its community”

As a resident I would like the council to reconsider this decision and am keen to hear from other residents who feel the same

Thank you
