Liz Pasqualini started this petition to Northern Beaches Council (Ray Brownlee)

We would like to request that the Northern Beaches Council consider installing a fenced, off-leash dog park in the Bantry Bay area of Frenchs Forest.

The area that would work well is the old Brick Pit Reserve on the corner of Warringah Rd and Bantry Bay Rd.  This would be a good location as it is a bit of a dead area, there is parking close by and there are no direct neighbours.  The Brick Pit Reserve used to be a childrens playground however we have at least two very nice established parks for children to play in within our suburb i.e. Gilbert Place park and the park that lies between Karingal and Akora avenue.

There are roughly 600 homes in the Bantry Bay area and we currently do not have any space within a reasonable walking distance for residents to let their dogs play off leash.  A park such as this would really add to our community providing a place for people and dogs to get some exercise and socialize.

We have a number of elderly residents in our area who own small dogs and it would be of great benefit to them to be able to get out of their houses for a short walk and interact with their neighbours.

The residents of this area have had to deal with a lot of changes, noise and disruption over the last few years due to the new Northern Beaches hospital being built and the continued road works.  It would be a great to have something really positive happen to benefit the local residents.

The cost to the Northern Beaches Council to create this goodwill in the community would be minimal.  A gated fence, a few bins, some benches and regular maintenance would do it.

Once this area is established we could look at installing a sharing library and a community garden to really turn this area into a community hub.
