Due to recent inflammatory comments, made by the head of Chick-fil-A against gay people, it has become necessary for NAU to remove this restaurant chain from its campus immediately. It has become perfectly clear that Chick-fil-A creates a culture of hostility towards the LGBT community and their sympathizers, which is contrary to NAU's Commitment to Diversity. The NAU student body itself embodies a culture of diversity and tolerance, so with all the controversy surrounding Chick-fil-A, continuing to have this restaurant chain on campus would send the wrong message to students about the importance of tolerance and diversity.

Letter to
Northern Arizona University
Sodexo
In light of recent inflammatory comments made by the head of Chick-fil-A against people of gay sexual orientation, I urge you to cancel all contracts between the university and Chick-fil-A, and remove this restaurant chain from campus immediately. It has become clear in recent weeks that Chick-fil-A creates a culture of hostility towards the LGBT community and their sympathizers, which is contrary to NAU's Commitment to Diversity. With all the controversy surrounding this restaurant chain, continuing to have Chick-fil-A on campus would be nothing but a liability, and it would send the wrong message to students about the importance of tolerance and diversity.

Please ask Chick-fil-A to vacate their NAU location immediately. There are plenty of other chains that sell chicken sandwiches that would be happy to take their place (i.e. KFC, Church's, Popeyes, El Pollo Loco, McDonald's, Wendy's, Carl's Jr.). Obviously, it will be tough replacing Chick-fil-A with another chicken sandwich that meets Dining Services' nutrition requirements, but in this case, there are more important things at stake than physical nutrition. If you can't find another chicken sandwich chain that serves nutritious-enough food, then replace Chick-fil-A with a non-chicken chain, or ask Sodexo to provide one of their own brands that isn't already on campus. In all, closing the campus Chick-fil-A store will immediately prove to be the right thing to do.

Sincerely,
