Weston Favell Village Residents' Association started this petition to Northamptonshire County Council

The petitioners ask that the County Council agrees to a 20 mph speed limit in Weston Favell Village in High Street and Church Way between Wellingborough Road and Favell Way.

The petitioners believe that the current limit of 30 mph in the village is too high. We believe a safe and responsible speed is 20mph. Traffic at 20 mph would improve the village environment, reduce fear of fast traffic and support increased walking and cycling.

Roads in the centre of Weston Favell village are narrow and twisting. A very high percentage of traffic passing through the village is inappropriate ‘rat-running’ drivers using the village centre to avoid congested main roads.

Footways are narrow throughout and in some parts of Church Way there are no footways at all. There are significant pedestrian movements in the village, including children attending several primary and upper schools, and young and elderly people attending St Peters' Church and Hall for events throughout the week.

Weston Favell Village is unique as an historic village centre within Northampton. It is a conservation area with narrow roads and footways, but currently without a 20mph speed limit.
