In a BBC interview North Yorkshire police commissioner Phillip Allot indirectly suggested that the tragic murder of Sarah Everard was her own fault.

He said that women “need to be streetwise” about powers of arrest and that women should “just learn a bit about that legal process”

He ignorantly went on to say “So women, first of all, need to be streetwise about when they can be arrested and when they can’t be arrested. She should never have been arrested and submitted to that,”

“Perhaps women need to consider in terms of the legal process, to just learn a bit about that legal process.”

Mr Allott has a responsibility to safe guard the public. To perceive Sarah’s murder as her own fault and suggest that she ‘submitted’ to something she should not because of her own lack of knowledge of British law is despicable and displays a profound disgust for victims of crime. He should not be in a position of protecting society with such ‘blame culture’ views. He should resign immediately.
