Stop the Rezoning and Development of Driftwood Village

Many agree that co-ops are great when they are done well and in the right place. Unfortunately, The Driftwood Village complex requires controversial rezoning. It was given a green light with only one deciding vote despite the issues and concerns:
- WAY TOO HIGH COMPARED TO NEIGHBOURING BUILDINGS
- SHOEHORNED DIRECTLY BETWEEN HOMES
- ACCESS ENCROACHES NEIGHBOURS DRIVEWAYS
- TOO CLOSE TO WAGG CREEK
- BLOCKS SURROUNDING VIEWS
- REZONING IN THE AREA SETS A BAD PRECEDENT
- MANY NEIGHBOURS WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF PUBLIC HEARINGS BY MAIL
The first mailings for the initial meeting in Sept 2017 was not received by many neighbours, including a complex that contains over 250 units. What’s more, the Public Hearing notices were delivered AFTER the council voted, resulting in many residents whom strongly object to the rezoning for the above reasons, absolutely unaware and unable to have their voices heard by council. It's unfortunate that a co-op is receiving controversy, but people agree that it should be relocated and the rezoning of those lots should be stopped.
Councillors of the City of North Vancouver were quoted saying “allowing this much density on this site is likely a mistake” and another said “...this is a particularly challenging site and it ought not to have been considered for density bonusing.” Even another Councillor said that this development was “an experiment” and “we’ll see how it works.” And another Councillor describes the project as being “shoehorned” between one and two story homes, and yes, despite all these concerns – it unfortunately still went through.
Please sign this petition and let council know we don't want the rezoning and development in that location. Lets show council that area should NOT be rezoned in order to wedge a large complex in there.
