Why this petition matters

Started by Jane Gould

Many of the footpaths in North Tyneside are shared, with pedestrians and cyclists using the same routes.  Some cyclists (and electric scooter and skateboard riders) travel at speed on these paths causing walkers to have to get out of their way fast to avoid being injured.  This is particularly so on the Promenade where cyclists approach at speed at the north end and continue to travel at speed amongst pedestrians, children and dogs. The promenade is  part of the National Cycle Network, but this needs to change. There is already a cycle path along the Links, so there is no need for cyclists, etc, to use the Promenade. And cyclists and users of electric scooters and skateboards on any shared paths need to limit their speed to 15 kilometers per hour.
