North Sydney Pool - Have Your Say Council meeting 7pm, 4 December 2017, Council Chambers

Attention: Mayor, Councillors, General Manager and Minister for Local Government
What happened to Community Consultation and North Sydney Council’s Commitment to Open and Transparent Government?
At the Council meeting on 20 November 2017, a late agenda item was included at on the day of the meeting in relation to North Sydney Pool. This agenda item, in the form of a Mayoral Minute, was only made available at late notice to Councillors & a few hard copies were sitting on a bench outside the public gallery on the night.
Without any public notification that the future of North Sydney Pool would be on the agenda, and without the promised community consultation that the Council had committed to, the Mayor, the Deputy Mayor and ALL the new Councillors including the Mayor's daughter, voted with the Mayor to not continue with the community consultation process outlined by the independent consultants.
So much for putting the Community1st as some promised in the election campaign.
The Council resolved by a majority vote to proceed with a sub-standard, unsustainable option without any report on costs, budget, timeframe, lifespan of new works, potential revenue streams nor the inclusion of critical infrastructure works – this is reckless in the extreme & shows scant regard for Council's finances (our money).
The option resolved upon will incur significant costs to residents and ratepayers, will result in substantial increases in entry and usage fees and may also require a special levy. It is likely to plunge the Council into debt and does not fix many of the problems at the pool.
Whatever the case, the community have a right to be consulted and to address the Council on any issue. The Council should not be making decisions which deliberately avoid public scrutiny.
Please sign the petition, forward to friends and members of the community and register to speak at the Council meeting on Monday 4 December by emailing Council at email@example.com or calling 9936-8397.
Let your Council know that we want:
a) the promised community consultation process re-instated
b) a final design, based on all feedback which incorporates the most important parts of each option, to be developed and then put on community consultation for further feedback and community engagement
c) an estimate of the budget, a timeline for the redevelopment of the pool & funding sources identified.
This may be the last chance to have our say on our pool.
