Only in philistine Sydney (the MLC equivalent in Melbourne is treasured) would such a proposal even be put forward. Fortunately C-19 spells the end of high density high rise, on both economic and health planes - and for offices even more than for apartments.

Arguably, the MLC building put North Sydney "on the map". It was one of the most significant buildings of the era in the whole of Sydney. As a youngster it was one of the highlights of the ferry trlp to Manly with its weather forecast light beacon. It is still a beautiful building and probably Sydney's most significant example of mid century commercial architecture. To destroy it would be an act of vandalism on a par with those who planned razing The Rocks and other of our all too rare heritage items in previous decades. Have we learnt nothing?

I've worked in North Sydney for over 30 years. This building with its set-back and foreground grassed area has always been a working community centrepiece of our northern CBD. Apart from its outright architectural significance, for many decades it continued to have the largest floorspace area of any building in North Sydney. Inspirational mayor, Ted Mack would turn in his grave at mayor "Jilly's" unfounded assertion that the proposed larger replacement will cast less shadow!! When will Liberal representatives stop trying to destroy everything of community value in greater Sydney?

Current Heritage Listings must be kept. Soon you’ll be selling off the Opera House to Hotel Developers for destruction and replacement with a hotel high rise.

I'm signing because it is fascinating to know there is a Modernist commercial building in Sydney from the 50's, it must be preserved!

Mid century modernist building heritage listed, part of our cultural and memory archive that must remain. There is no future without a past.

Way too many buildings in Sydney, Parramatta etc are slated for destruction and are of historical significance. They are fine examples of architecture and living testaments.
