Currently in Long Ashton Bristol especially Perry Road the street lights go out by 12am, this has seen an increase in the level of crime in the area. I am a resident on Perry Road and have recently been a victim of theft during the hours in which the street lights are off.

Not having street lights in an affluent area where there are high value vehicles parked on the street/drive whilst also paying a high level of council tax has led to residents including myself not feeling safe and becoming vulnerable to these crimes.

Speaking with other residents who have home CCTV have raised their concerns about the quality of the recording due to the street being pitch black without the street lights. In the past having the street lights on during the night has enabled myself and other residents to visually recognise any suspicious activity and then have due time to call the police in order to avoid any crime taking place.

We believe having the street lights back on will eradicate if not minimise the amount of crime in the area. It has been advised during contact with a local PCSO that in order to investigate these crimes further having witnesses and CCTV is of great help in their line of enquiry. Therefore these street lights being on during all hours of the night are of a paramount importance to the local community and residents of Long Ashton.
