Save West Ridge Park

On Tuesday August 25th, the Park District of Highland Park and North Shore School District 112 agreed in a joint meeting to move forward with plans to close West Ridge Park in order to make room for a new 2000-student middle school campus in southwest Highland Park. This proposed middle school would be the size of a high school. Every 5th through 8th grade student in Highland Park and Highwood would attend this school; almost all would be bused or driven.
Under this plan, the West Ridge Center would be closed, Red Oak Elementary and Sherwood Elementary schools would be demolished, and large sections of West Ridge Park will be paved over so that school buses can turn into the new school's parking lot directly from Ridge Rd.
West Ridge Park is a vital part of our community, and is widely used every day by residents of southwest Highland Park. This plan will have a terrible impact on our neighborhood by eliminating green space, increasing traffic, and likely reducing property values for homes in the neighborhood.
Please sign this petition and urge the District 112 School Board and the Board of Park Commissioners not to close West Ridge Park.
