Recently, students at North Kingstown High School have learned that following midterms, they will no longer be allowed to bring their backpacks to their last period. Despite so-called "safety hazards" that come with backpacks last period, it overall does more harm to the student body instead of good. Many students have lockers that are far away from their last period classes. Some have to go from the 1st to the 3rd floor to get to their lockers and others have to go to the other side of the building. There are many reasons that this ban on last period backpacks should not take place. Here are a few

• It is an inconvenience to students who are not close to their lockers
• Many students could miss their buses—a major conflict for students that are out of district (Jamestown, Warwick, Narragansett, Richmond, etc)
• Teachers could take time away from lessons, to let students go get their backpacks 
• Many students are rushing to their lockers which causes traffic jams on all three floors (over a thousand students all rushing to the same place). This creates a fire hazard and can put students at risk.
