Why this petition matters

Started by John Gault

Dean L. Bresciani, NDSU Leadership,

Over the weekend, we witnessed numerous cases of Police brutality as the Fargo Police Department escalated and then broke up a peaceful protest. Then, online via the police department’s official Twitter, officers threatened to remove children from people who participated in the protest against the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It is clear that the leadership of the Fargo PD does not respect peaceful demonstrations and would rather resort to violence and blatant disrespect to keep us inline. The NDSU community is strong and very accepting of all races, genders, and sexual orientations. The actions taken by the Fargo Police Department over the weekend prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that the police department does not share the same values.

We, the students, alumni, and community members of North Dakota State University will not stand for the blatant police brutality that occurred in our wonderful hometown. We no longer feel safe at school with the presence of the Fargo Police Department. We are calling on the faculty of NDSU to stand up to police violence and cut ties with the Fargo Police Department.

We humbly rrequest that you limit the police presence both on campus and at football games to the NDSU police department.

Sincerely,

Students, Alumni, and community members of NDSU
