Concerned Students started this petition to North Carolina Wesleyan College

North Carolina Wesleyan College shut down when cases were just starting to pop up in the state but now during a surge in cases of COVID-19 has decided to reopen a decision that no matter how you feel about COVID-19 reflects a lack of care for students.

For those who fear being infected COVID-19, it shows a lack of proper concern by NCWC and its Board of Directors to open as cases rise through North Carolina. College students will undoubtedly break these "safety rules" increasing the chance of the school becoming a cluster of students and faculty to become infected. Not only does this put high-risk students in life-threatening danger but it puts its older professors in danger too. Especially as rules can only truly be enforced on students who stay on campus and not commuters.

For those who don't fear the virus and are at low risk or just those who are tired of all these so-called "safety rules," it will become a burden to go to school as the rules such as getting tested for COVID-19 to remain on campus, Wear a mask at all times (even in your residency halls) to leave your room, Check in on an app to enter a building other than your own, and so many others that it will complicate an already hard life that college students must endure. This whole situation is causing unnecessary stress to the students of NCWC.

There's also some ethical questions we must sort out such as is it even ethical for a school to require these things of their students and if these measures cost money should the school decide that you must use your own money to return to an already expensive school?

To sum it up, no matter how you look at it NCWC and its Board of Directors will fail there duties if they make students return to school as it will be an unsafe environment to our bodies and minds. Nash county schools have canceled and so should Wesleyan.
